Chapter 1 — These are the Words

These are the words which Mōshēh had made to be spoken unto all Yisra’ēl on the other side of the Yardēn, in the wilderness, in the A̒rav̱ah opposite Sūph, between Pa̕ran and between Tōphel, and Lav̱an and Ḥatsērōt and Di̱-Zahav̱, 1:2an eleven day journey from Ḥōrēv̱ by way of Har-Sē‘i̱r unto Qadēsh-Barnēa̒.

3Then it was in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month that Mōshēh had made to be spoken unto the sons of Yisra’ēl, according to all which Yăhwēh had made to be commanded him unto them, 4after smiting Si̱ḥōn, king of the E̕mōri̱, who was dwelling in Ḥeshbōn, and O̒g, king of the Bashan, who was dwelling in A̒shtarōt, in E̕dre̒i̱.

5Beyond the Yardēn, in the land of Mōa̕v, Mōshēh had been willing to make be plain this law saying, “Yăhwēh your Almĭghty made be spoken unto us in Ḥōrēv̱, saying 6‘It is enough for you dwelling at this mountain. 7Turn and pull up yourselves. And enter the hill country of the ’Emōri̱, and unto all its inhabitants in the ‘Arav̱ah, in the hill country, and in the Shephēlah (lowland), and in the Negev̱, and on the shore of the sea, the land of the Kena‘ani̱, and Lev̱anōn onward to the great river, the river Perat. 8See, I have put before your faces the land. Enter and inherit the land which Yăhwēh swore himself to your fathers, to ’Av̱raham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‘aqōv̱, to give to them, and to their seed after them.’

9“Then, I said unto you, in that time, saying, ‘I am not able by myself to carry you. 10Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made you multiply. And look at yourselves today as the stars of the heavens so multiplied. 11May Yăhwēh the Almĭghty of your fathers add upon you, as you are a thousand times. And let him make be blessed you as that he has made be spoken to you. 12How can I carry by myself the burden of you and the weight of you and your strife? 13Put forward for yourselves wise men, and understanding ones, and knowledgeable ones, for your tribes. Then let me put them at the head of you.”

14“Then you answered me, and you said, ‘The word is good, which you have made be spoken to do.’ 15Then I received the heads of your tribes, wise men, and knowledgeable ones. Then I put them as heads over you, officers of thousands, and officers of hundreds, and officers of fifties, and officers of tens, and deputies for your tribes. 16Then I made be commanded your judges at that time saying, ‘Listen between your brothers, and you will have judged justly between a man and between his brother, and between his sojourner. 17You shall not regard appearances in judgment. Like the small, like the great, you must hear. You shall not fear from the face of man, because the judgment belongs to the Almĭghty himself, and the matter which may be hard, beyond you, you must make approach unto me. And I will have heard it.”

18“Then I made be commanded you at that time all the things which you must do. 19Then we pulled out from Ḥōrēv̱. Then we walked all that great and awesome wilderness, which you have seen on the way of the hill country of the ’Emōri̱ as that Yăhwēh our Almĭghty had made be commanded us. Then we came onward to Qadēsh-Barnē‘a. 20Then, I said unto you, ‘You have come onward to the hill country of the ’Emōri̱ which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty is giving to us. 21See! Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has put the land before your faces. Go up, inherit, as that has made be spoken Yăhwēh, the Almĭghty of your fathers to you. You should not fear, and you should not be dismayed. 22Then you drew near unto me, all of you. Then you said, ‘We should send men before our faces. And they should search out for us, the land. And they should return to us word, the way which we should go up into it, and the cities which we may come unto them.’

23“Then was good in my eyes the matter. Then I took from you twelve men, one man to the tribe. 24Then they turned. Then they went up toward the hill country. Then they came onward to the Naḥal (wash valley) of ’Eshkōl. Then they spied it out. 25Then they took in their hands from the fruit of the earth. Then they made it descend unto us. Then they made return to us word. Then they said, ‘The land is good, which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty is giving to us.’ 26And you had not been willing to go up. Then you made rebellion against the mouth of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. 27Then you were complaining in your tents. Then, you said, ‘In hatred against us Yăhwēh made us go out from the land of Mitsrayim to give us into the hand of the ’Emōri̱ to make us annihilated. 28Where are we going up? Our brothers have made melt our hearts, saying, “A great people and higher than us, great cities, and impregnable in the heavens. And also, the sons of the ‘Anaqi̱m we have seen there!”’”

29“Then I said unto you, ‘You must not be frightened. And you must not be in fear from them. 30Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is the one walking at your faces. He himself will fight for you just like all which he had done with you in Mitsrayim, before your eyes. 31And in the wilderness, which you have seen, when had carried you, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, as that a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked onward to your coming onward to this place. 32And in this word you were not making your support (affirming faithfulness), in Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, 33the one walking at your faces in the way to seek out for you a place to encamp yourselves, in the fire by night to make you see in the way which you should walk in it, and by the cloud by day.”

34“Then Yăhwēh heard the sound of your words. Then he became angry. Then he swore himself saying, 35‘No man will see, among these men of this evil generation, the good land which I have sworn myself to give to their fathers, 36except Calēv̱ son of Yephūnneh. He will see it, and to him I will give the land which he has gone way in it, and to his sons, because that he made be full following after Yăhwēh.’ 37Also with me Yăhwēh had made himself be angry on your account, saying, ‘Also you will not come there. 38Yehōshū‘a son of Nūn, the one standing at your face, he will come to there. Him make be strong! Because he shall make Yisra’ēl inherit it. 39And your toddlers which you had said will be for prey, and your sons, which have not known today good and evil, they will come to there, and to them I will give it, and they shall inherit it. 40And you-all turn yourselves and pull out toward the wilderness of the way of Yam Sūf (End Sea).’ ”

41“Then you answered. Then you said unto me, ‘We have sinned against Yăhwēh. We will go up. And we will have been fighting according to all which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty has made be commanded us.’ Then you girded, each one his battle gear. Then you made it easy to go up toward the hill country. 42Then Yăhwēh said unto me, ‘Say to them, “You must not go up. And you must not be fighting, because I am not in the midst of you. And you will not be smitten at the face of your enemies.’ 43Then I made be spoken unto you, and you had not listened. Then you made rebellion against the mouth of Yăhwēh. Then you acted presumptuously. Then you went up toward the hill country. 44Then the ’Emōri̱ went out, the kind dwelling in that hill country, to meet you. Then they pursued you as that bees do. Then they made you beaten in Sē‘i̱r onward Ḥormah. 45Then you returned. Then you wept at the face of Yăhwēh. And Yăhwēh had not listened to your voices. And he had not made ear unto you. 46Then you dwelled in Qadēsh many days, like the days which you had already dwelled.”

Chapter 2 — Then We Turned

“Then we turned. Then we pulled up toward the wilderness of the way of Yam Sūf (End Sea) as that Yăhwēh had made be commanded unto me. Then we went around the hill country of Sē‘i̱r many days. 2:2Then Yăhwēh said unto me, saying, 3‘Enough for you going around this hill country. Turn yourselves northward, 4and make be commanded the people saying, “You are going to cross over into the border of your brothers, the sons of ‘Ēsaυ, those dwelling in Sē‘i̱r. Then they will fear from you. And you will have guarded yourselves strictly. 5You shall not make yourselves be stirred up over them, because I will not give to you from their land as far as a tread of the sole of a foot, because an inheritance to ‘Ēsaυ I have given the hill country of Sē‘i̱r.’”

6“‘Food you shall broker from with them in exchange for silver. And you will have eaten. And also water you will trade from with them in exchange for silver, and you will have drunk, 7because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made you to be blessed in all the work of your hand. He has known your walking about this vast wilderness. This fortieth year Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is with you. You have not lacked a thing.’ 8Then we passed by from alongside our brothers, the sons of ‘Ēsaυ, the ones dwelling in Sē‘i̱r, off the road of the ‘Arav̱ah from Ēi̱lat, and from ‘Etsyōn-Gev̱er. Then we turned. Then we passed by the way of the wildnerness of Mō’av̱.”

9“Then Yăhwēh said unto me, ‘You shall not besiege Mō’av̱. And you shall not make yourselves be stirred up over them a war, because I will not give to you from his land an inheritance, because to the sons of Lōt I have given ‘Ar as an inheritance.’ 10(The ’Ēmi̱m formerly had dwelled in it, a people great and many, and high as the ‘Anaqi̱m. 11Repha’i̱m they are reckoned, but they are like the ‘Anaqi̱m. And the Mō’av̱i̱m call them ’Ēmi̱m. 12And in Sē‘i̱r dwelled the Ḥōri̱m formerly. And the sons of ‘Ēsaυ inherited them. Then they annihilated them from before their faces. Then they dwelled in place of them as that Yisra’ēl had done to the land of his inheritance, which Yăhwēh had given to them.)

13“‘Now rise up, and cross over yourselves the Naḥal (wash valley) Zered.’ Then we crossed over the Naḥal Zered. 14And the days which we had walked from Qadēsh-Barnē‘a onward to when we had crossed over the Naḥal Zered were thirty and eight years, onward, finishing all the generation of the men of war from the midst of the camp as that Yăhwēh had sworn himself to them. 15And also the hand of Yăhwēh had been against them to hustle them from the midst of the camp onward their finishing. 16Then it was as that they had been finished, all the men of war to die from the midst of the people, 17then Yăhwēh made be spoken unto me, saying, 18‘You are crossing over today the border of Mō’av̱, ‘Ar. 19And you will have neared the front of the sons of ‘Ammōn. You shall not besiege them. And you shall not make yourselves stirred up over them, because I will not give from the land of the sons of ‘Ammōn to you as an inheritance, because to the sons of Lōt I have given it as an inheritance.’”

20(A land of the Repha’i̱m it is reckoned, yea it was. The Repha’i̱m dwelled in it formerly. And the ‘Ammōni̱m call them Zamzūmmi̱m, a people great and many, and high like the ‘Anaqi̱m. Then Yăhwēh made them annihilated from before their faces. Then they inherited them. Then, they dwelled in their place, 22as that he had done for the sons of ‘Ēsaυ, the ones dwelling in Sē‘i̱r when he had made annihlated the Ḥōri̱ from before their faces. Then they inherited them. Then they dwelled in their place onward this day. 23And the ‘Aυυi̱m, the ones dwelling in villages onward to ‘Azzah, the Caphtōri̱m, the ones going out from Caphtōr had made them annihlated. Then they dwelled in their place.)

24“‘Rise up! Pull out! And cross over the Naḥal ’Arnōn! See, I have put in your hand Si̱ḥōn, king of Ḥeshbōn, the ’Emōri̱, and his land. Begin! Inherit! And make yourselves be stirred up against him a war! 25This day I will make a beginning to put the dread of you, and the fear of you upon the faces of the peoples under all the heavens, which must hear a hearing of you. And they will have been shaken and they will have been writhing from before your faces.’”

26“Then I sent messengers from the wilderness of Qedēmōt unto Si̱hōn, king of Ḥeshbōn, words of shalōm saying, 27‘I wish to cross over in your land, on the road. On the road I will go. I will not go aside right and left. 28Food in exchange for silver you can make brokered (sold to) me. And I will have eaten, and water in exchange for silver you shall give to me, and I will have drunk. Only I wish to cross over on my feet. 29As that has done for me the sons of ‘Ēsaυ, the ones dwelling in Sē‘i̱r, and the Mō’av̱i̱m, the ones dwelling in ‘Ar, onward to when I may cross over the Yardēn unto the land which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty is giving to us.’ ”

30“And not had been willing Si̱ḥōn, king of Ḥeshbōn to make us cross over in it, because Yăhwēh our Almĭghty had made hard his spirit and he had made be firm his heart in order to give him into your hand, as it is this day. 31Then Yăhwēh said unto me, ‘See! I have made a beginning to put at your face Si̱ḥōn, and his land. Make a beginning. Take possession to inherit his land.’ 32Then Si̱ḥōn went out to call us, he and all his people for battle toward Yaḥats. Then Yăhwēh our Almĭghty put him at our faces. Then we made him smitten, and his son, and all his people. 33Then we captured all his cities at that time. And we made banned every city, men and women, and little ones. We had not made left a survivor. 35Only the livestock we had plundered for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we had captured. 36From ‘Arō‘ēr, which is upon the lip of Naḥal ’Arnōn, and the city which is in the Naḥal, and onward Gil‘ad, there had been no town which had been high beyond us. Everything Yăhwēh our Almĭghty had put at our faces. 37Only unto the land of the sons of ‘Ammōn you had not drawn near, any bank of Naḥal Yabbōq, and the cities of the hill country, and any which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty made be commanded.”

Chapter 3 — The Way of Bashan

“Then we turned. Then we went up the way of Bashan. Then went out ‘Ōg, king of Bashan, to call on us, he and all his people, to battle at ’Edre‘i̱. 3:2Then Yăhwēh said unto me, ‘You shall not fear him, because in your hand I have put him, and all his people, and his land. And you will have done to him as that you have done to Si̱ḥōn, king of the ’Emōri̱, who was dwelling in Ḥeshbōn.’ 3Then Yăhwēh our Almĭghty put in our hands even ‘Ōg, king of Bashan, and all his people. Then we made him smitten onward till he had no survivor left to himself. 4Then we captured all his cities at that time. There had been no town which we had not taken from with them, sixty cities, all the territory of ’Argōv̱, the kingdom of ‘Ōg in Bashan. 5All these were impregnable cities, with a high wall, with double gate and bar, apart from very many country side villages. 6Then we made them banned as that we had done to Si̱ḥōn, king of Ḥeshbōn, making banned every city, men, the women, and the little ones. 7And all the livestock and spoil of the cities we had plundered for ourselves. 8Then, we took at that time the land from the hand of the two kings of the ’Emōri̱ which were across the Yardēn, from the Naḥal ’Arnōn onward to the hill country of Ḥermōn, 9(The Tsi̱dōni̱m call Ḥermōn Siryōn, and the ’Emōri̱ call it Seni̱r,) 10all the cities of the plain, and all Gil‘ad, and all Bashan onward to Salḳah and ’Edre‘i̱, cities of the kingdom of ‘Ōg in Bashan. 11(Yea only ‘Ōg, king of Bashan had been left from the remnant of the Repha’i̱m. Behold his bed was a bed of iron. Is it not in Rabbah of the sons of ‘Ammōn? Nine cubits is the length of it, and four cubits is the width of it, with the cubit of man.) 12And this land we had inherited at that time, from ‘Arō‘ēr which is by Naḥal ’Arnōn. And half the hill country of Gil‘ad, and its cities I have given to the Re’ūv̱ēni̱ and to the Gadi̱ 13And the rest of Gil‘ad, and all Bashan, the kingdom of ‘Ōg, I have given to the half tribe of Menasheh, all the territory of ’Argōv̱. (To all that Bashan was called the land of the Repha’i̱m. 14Ya’i̱r son of Menasheh had taken all the territory of ’Argōv̱ onward to the border of the Geshūri̱, and the Ma‘aḳati̱. Then he called them by his name, the Bashan Ḥaυōt-Ya’i̱r onward to this day.) 15And to Maḳi̱r I have given Gil‘ad. 16And to the Re’ūv̱ēni̱ and to the Gadi̱ I have given from Gil‘ad and onward to the Naḥal ’Arnōn, the middle of the Naḥal and it is border, and onward to Yabbōq, the Naḥal, the border of the sons of ‘Ammōn, 17And the ‘Arav̱ah, and the Yardēn, and it is the border, from Kinneret and onward to the sea of the ‘Arav̱ah, the sea of salt under the slopes of Pisgah toward the east.”

18“Then I made be commanded you at that time, saying, ‘Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has given to you this land to inherit it. Being equipped you shall cross over before the faces of your brothers, the sons of Yisra’ēl, all the sons of the army. 19Only your women, and your little ones, and your cattle, (I have known that many cattle belong to you,) shall dwell in your cities which I have given to you, 20onward to when Yăhwēh shall give rest to your brothers like yourselves. And they will have inherited also themselves the land which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to them across the Yardēn, and you will have returned, each man to his inheritance which I have given to you.’”

21“And Yehōshū‘a I made be commanded at that time, saying, ‘Your eyes are seeing all which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has done to these two kings. So Yăhwēh will do to all the kingdoms which you are crossing over to there. 22You’all shall not fear them, because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is he who is fighting for you’all.’”

23“Then I made myself be seeking favor unto Yăhwēh at that time, saying, 24‘A̕dŏnai̱ Yăhwēh you have made a beginning to make your servant see your greatness, and your strong hand, because who is god in the heavens and in the earth that can act according to your works, and according to your mighty acts? 25Let me cross over please, and let me see the good land which is across the Yardēn, that good hill country, and Lev̱anōn.’ 26Then, Yăhwēh made himself be cross at me on your account, and he had not listened unto me. Then Yăhwēh said unto me, ‘Enough from you! Do not add to make be spoken unto me again in this matter. 27Ascend the peak of Pisgah, and lift your eyes seaward, and northward, and southward, and toward the rising, and see with your eyes, because you will not cross over this Yardēn. 28And make be commanded Yehōshū‘a. And make him be strong, and make him be firm, because he, he will cross over before the faces of this people. And he shall make them inherit the land which you will see.’”

29“Then, we dwelled in the valley opposite Bēi̱t-Pe‘ōr.”

Chapter 4 — And now Yisra’ēl listen

“And now Yisra’ēl listen unto the statutes and the judgments which I am making be taught you to do, so that you will live, and you will have entered, and you will have inherited the land which Yăhwēh, the Almĭghty of your fathers, is giving to you. 4:2You shall not add upon the word which I am making be commanded you’all, and you shall not subtract from it, to keep the commandments of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty which I am making be commanded you. 3Your eyes see that which Yăhwēh has done at Ba‘al-Pe‘ōr, because every man which had walked after Ba‘al-Pe‘ōr, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made him annihilated from the midst of you. 4And you’all who clung onto Yăhwēh your Almĭghty are alive, all of you this day. 5See! I have made be taught you statutes and judgments as that Yăhwēh my Almĭghty has made be commanded me, to do thusly in the midst of the land which you are entering to there, to inherit it. 6And you will have kept them, and you will have done them, because it is your wisdom, and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples which must hear of all these statutes. And they will have said, ‘Altogether a people wise and understanding is this great nation, 7because who is the great nation having for itself an Almĭghty near unto it like Yăhwēh our Almĭghty in all our callings unto him?’ 8And, ‘Who is the great nation which has for itself statutes and righteous judgments as all this Tōrah,’ which I am putting before your faces this day?’”

9“Only be watchful of yourselves, and guard your soul carefully lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest you turn from your heart all the days of your life. And you will have made them known to your sons, and to the sons of your sons, 10the day which you had stood at the face of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty in Ḥōrēv̱, when said Yăhwēh unto me, ‘Make assemble for me the people, and I wish to make them hear the words by which they must learn to awe-fear me all the days which they live upon the ground, and their sons they must make be taught. 11Then you yourselves approached. Then you stood yourselves under the mountain. And the mountain was burning in the fire onward to the heart of the heavens, in darkness, cloud, and dense obscurity. 12Then Yăhwēh made be spoken unto you from the midst of the fire. The voice of words you were hearing, and a form you were not seeing besides the voice. 13Then he made plain to you his covenant, which he made be commanded you to do, the ten sayings. Then he wrote them upon two tablets of stone. 14And Yăhwēh made be commanded me at that time to make you be taught statutes and judgments for your doing them in the land which you are crossing over to there to inherit it. 15And you will have guarded yourselves closely, as to your souls, because you had not seen any form on the day Yăhwēh made be spoken unto you in Ḥōrēv̱ from amid the fire, 16lest you make a corruption, and you will have made for yourselves an image, a form of any image, a figure of a male or female, 17a figure of any beast which is in the earth, a figure of any winged bird which flies in the heavens, 18a figure of any creeper on the ground, a figure of any fish which is in the waters below land, 19and lest you lift up your eyes toward the heavens, and you will have seen the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of the heavens, and you will have driven yourself away, and you will have made yourself to be bowing down to them, and you will have served them, which created things Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has shared them to all the peoples under all the heavens.”

20“And you, Yăhwēh had taken. Then he made you go out from the iron furnace of Mitsrayim to be for himself as a people, an inheritance, as at this day. 21And Yăhwēh has made himself be angry with me over your words. Then, he swore himself to not crossing me the Yardēn, and to not entering unto the good land which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you as an inheritance, 22because I am going to die in this land. No me crossing over the Yardēn. And you are crossing over. And you will have inherited this good land. 23Watch ye to yourselves lest you forget the covenant of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty which he has cut with you’all, and lest you will have made for yourselves an image, a figure of anything which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made be commanded, 24because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is a consuming fire. He is a jealous Gŏd.”

25“When you make begotten sons, and sons of sons, and you will have fallen asleep in the land, and you will have made a corruption, and you will have made an image, a figure of anything, then you will have done evil in the eyes of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty to make him angry. 26I have made witness against you’all this day, the heavens and the earth, that perishing you must perish quickly from upon the land which you are crossing over the Yardēn to there to inherit it. You will not lengthen days upon it, but being annihilated you will surely be annihilated. 27Then Yăhwēh will have made you scattered among the peoples, and you will have been left few of number among the nations that Yăhwēh will make you be driven to there. 28And you will have served there gods, the work of the hands of man, wood and stone which cannot see, and cannot hear, and cannot eat, and cannot smell. 29And you will have made be sought from there Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and you will have found him when you really search for him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30In your bondage, and when all these things have found you, in the latter days, then you will have returned to Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and you will have listened to his voice.”

31“Because Gŏd is merciful, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. He will not make you abandoned, and he will not make you ruined, and he will not forget the covenant of your fathers, which he has sworn himself to them. 32Yea, ask please about the first days, which have been before your face, since the day when the Almĭghty had created man upon the earth, and from the limit of the heavens, even onward to the limit of the heavens. Has there been such a great matter as this, or has been heard the like of it? 33Has a people heard the voice of the Almĭghty speaking out of the midst of the fire, as that you have heard yourself? Then lived? 34Or has made be tried an ’elōhi̱m to come, to take, for himself a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and with a strong hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors like all which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has done for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes? 35You, you have been made to see, to know, because Yăhwēh, he is the Almĭghty, none else besides him. 36From the heavens he had made you hear his voice to make you be disciplined, and upon the earth he has made you see his great fire, and his words you have heard from the midst of the fire, 37and afterward, because he has loved your fathers, and he chose among his seed after him. Then he made you go out before his face with great power from Mistrayim, 38to cause you to inherit great nations mightier than you, by making you come, to give to you their land, an inheritance, as at this day. 39And you will have known this day, and you will have returned unto your heart, because Yăhwēh, he is the Almĭghty in the heavens above, and upon the earth below, none other.”

40“Then, you will have kept his statutes and his commandments, which I am making be commanded you today, that it may go well for you, and for your sons after you, and so that you may lengthen your days upon the ground which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you all the days.”

41At that time, Mōshēh made separated three cities across the Yardēn, toward the rising of the sun, 42to let flee toward there the slayer which slays his neighbor without a knowing intent, and he was not hating him yesterday, the third day, and he will have fled unto one from these cities, and he will have lived: 43Betser in the wilderness in the land of plain for the Re’ūv̱ēni̱, and Ra’mōt in Gil‘ad for the Gadi̱, and Gōlan in Bashan for the Menashi̱.

44And this is the Law which Mōshēh had set at the face of the sons of Yisra’ēl. 45These are the witnesses and the statutes, and the judgments which Mōshēh made to be spoken unto the sons of Yisra’ēl in their going out from Mistrayim, on the other side of the Yardēn, in the valley opposite Bēi̱t-Pe‘ōr, in the land of Si̱ḥōn, king of the E̕mōri̱, who was dwelling in Ḥeshbōn, whom Mōshēh and the sons of Yisra’ēl had smitten in their going out from Mitsrayim. 47Then, they inherited his land, and the land of ‘Ōg, king of the Bashan, the two kings of the E̕mōri̱, beyond the Yardēn, at the rising of the sun, 48from A̒rōē̒r, which is upon the lip of the Naḥal (wash-valley) of A̕rnōn, and onward to Mount Si̱ō̕n, it is Ḥermōn, 49and all the A̒rav̱ah across the Yardēn, from the sunrising even onward to the sea of the A̒rav̱ah under the slopes of Pisgah.

Chapter 5 — Face to face Yăhwēh made to be spoken with you

Then Mōshēh called unto all Yisra’ēl. Then he said unto them, “Hear Yisra’ēl the statutes and the judgments which I am making to be spoken in your ears today, and you will have learned them, and you will have watched to do them. 5:2Yăhwēh our Almĭghty has cut with us a covenant in Hōrēv̱. 3Not with our fathers did Yăhwēh cut this covenant, but with us, we who are these here today, all of us living. 4Face to face Yăhwēh made to be spoken with you on the mountain from the midst of the fire, 5(I was standing between Yăhwēh and between you, at that time to declare to you the word of Yăhwēh, because you had feared from the face of the fire, and you had not ascended on the mountain), saying, 6‘I am Yăhwēh your Almĭghty who has made you go out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 7There will not be for you other gods before my face. 8You will not make for yourself an image of any representation which is in the heavens upward, or which is on the earth beneath, or which is in the seas beneath, adjacent to the land. 9You shall not make yourself be bowed down to them, and you will not serve them, because I Yăhwēh your Almĭghty am a jealous Gŏd attending the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, and upon third ones, and upon the fourth ones for my haters, 10and doing loving kindness for a thousand ones, for ones loving me, and for ones keeping my commandments.’

11‘You shall not bear the name of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty for nothing, because Yăhwēh will not make be acquitted he that shall bear his name for nothing.’

12‘Keep the day of the Shabbat, by making it be holy as that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made be commanded you. 13Six days you may serve, and you will have done all your work, 14and the seventh day is a shabbat for Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. You will not do any work, you and your son, and your daughter, and you servant, and your maid, and your ox, and your donkey, and any cattle of yours, and your sojourner which is in your gates in order that your servant may rest, and your maid just like you. 15Then you will have remembered, that a servant you had been in the land of Mitsrayim. Then, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty made you go out from there by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm. Therefore, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty made be commanded you to do the day of the Shabbat. 16Make be honored your father and your mother as that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made be commanded you, so that your days may be made long, and so that it will be well for you upon the ground which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you. 17You must not murder. 18And you must not commit adultery. 19And you must not steal. 20You shall not answer against your neighbor as a false witness. 21You must not desire the wife of your neighbor. And you must not make yourself to be craving the house of your neighbor, his field, and his servant, and his maid-servant, his ox, and his donkey, and anything which your neighbor has.’ 22

Chapter 6 — Hear Yisra’ēl, Yăhwēh is our Almĭghty, Yăhwēh only

And this is the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made to be commanded, to make to be taught you, to do in the land which you are crossing over unto there to inherit, 6:2so that you may fear Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, to keep all his statutes, and his commandments, which I am making to be commanded you, and your son, and the son of your son, all the days of your life, and so that you may make long your days. 3And you will have heard, Yisra’ēl, and you will have watched to do them, that it may benefit you, and that you may increase very greatly, as that Yăhwēh the Almĭghty of your fathers has made to be spoken to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

4Hear Yisra’ēl, Yăhwēh is our Almĭghty, Yăhwēh only. 5And you will have loved Yăhwēh your Almĭghty with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6And will have been, all these words, which I am making to be commanded you today, upon your heart. 7And you will have made them to be sharpened for your sons, and you will have made to be spoken about them, in your sitting in your house, and in your walking in the road, and in your lying down, and in your rising. 8And you will have bound them as a sign upon your hand. And they will have been as circlets between your eyes. 9And you will have written them upon the door posts of your house, and on your gates.

10And it will have been that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will make you come into the land which he has sworn himself to your fathers, to ’Av̱raham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‘aqōv̱, to give to you great cities, and good ones which you have not built, and houses full of every good thing which you have not made be full, and hewn cisterns which you have not hewn, vineyards and olives which you have not planted, and you will have eaten, and you will have been satisfied. 12Watch to yourself lest you will forget Yăhwēh who has made you go out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves. 13Yăhwēh your Almĭghty you must fear, and he you must serve, and on his name you shall swear yourself.

14You must not walk after other gods, from the gods of the peoples which surround you’all, 15because a jealous Gŏd is Yăhwēh your Almĭghty in the midst of you, lest should burn the anger of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty on you, and annihilate you from upon the face of the ground. 16You must not test Yăhwēh your Almĭghty as that you had made him be tested in Massah.

17Keeping you must keep the commandments of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and his testimonies, and his statutes which he has made be commanded you. 18And you will have done the right thing, and the good thing in the eyes of Yăhwēh so that it will be well for you. Then you will have entered. Then you will have inherited the good land which Yăhwēh has sworn himself to your fathers, 19to drive out all your enemies from before your faces as that Yăhwēh has made be spoken.

20Because your son will ask you tomorrow, saying, ‘What are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments which Yăhwēh our Almĭghty has made be commanded you’all?’ 21Then you will have said to your son, ‘Behold we belonged to Pharaoh in Egypt. And Yăhwēh made us go out from Egypt by a mighty hand. Then Yăhwēh gave signs and wonders, great and evil, on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house before our eyes. 23And us he had made go out from there so that making come us to give to us the land which he had sworn himself to our fathers. 24Then Yăhwēh made be commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yăhwēh our Almĭghty for good for us all the days, and to make be alive us as at this day. 25And righteousness it will be for us when we keep watch to do all these commandments before the face of Yăhwēh our Almĭghty as that he has made be commanded us.

Chapter 7

Because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will make you enter unto the land which you are entering thitherward to inherit it. And he will have made be dropped off many nations from before your faces, the Ḥitti̱, and the Girgashi̱, and the ’Emōri̱, and the Kena‘ani̱, and the Perizzi̱, and the Ḥiυυi̱, and the Yev̱ūsi̱, seven nations, greater and mightier than you. 7:2And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have put them at your faces. And you will have made them struck. As devoted to destruction you shall make them devoted to destruction. You must not cut a covenant for them. And you must not favor them. 3And you must not make yourselves be sons in law with them. Your daughter you must not give for his son. And his daughter you must not take for your son, 4because he will make turn your son from following me. And they will have served other gods. And will have burned the anger of Yăhwēh on you’all, and he will have quickly made you annihilated. 5Because surely thus you will do to them. Their altars you’all will pull down. And their pillars you’all shall make to be broken. And their ’Ashēi̱rē you’all shall make to be hewn down. And their iconic images you’all shall burn in the fire, 5because you are a holy people to Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. In connection to you Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has chosen to become for him, to belong, a people, a possession from all the peoples which are upon the face of the ground. 6Not because of the multitude of you’all, from all the nations is it that Yăhwēh has become attached to you. Then, he chose in connection to you because you were the least from all the peoples! 8Because it is from the love of Yăhwēh for you’all, and from his keeping the swearing which he swore himself to your fathers that Yăhwēh has made you go out by a mighty hand. So then, he redeemed you from the house of slaves, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

9Then, you will have known that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, he is the Almĭghty, the faithful Gŏd keeping the covenant, and the loving-kindness for those loving him, and for the keepers of his commandments for a thousand generations, 10and making be repaid those hating him, unto his face, to make him destroyed. He will not make be delayed concerning one hating him. Unto his face he will make be repaid to him.

11And you will have kept the commandment, and the statutes, and the judgments which I am making be commanded you today to do them. 12And it will have been a consequence when you’all will listen to these judgments, and you have kept, and you have done them, then Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have kept for you the covenant, and the loving-kindness which he has sworn himself to your fathers. 13And he will have loved you, and he will have made you to be blessed, and he will have made you many. And he will have made be blessed the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your ground, your grain, and your new wine, and your oil, the offspring of your cattle, and the young of your flock upon the ground which he has sworn himself to your fathers to give to you.

14Blessed you will be out of all the peoples. Not will be among you a barren male, and a barren female, and among your cattle. 15And Yăhwēh will have made turn away from you every sickness, and all of the diseases of Egypt, the evil ones which you had known. He will not set them on you, and he will put them in all those hating you. 16And you will have eaten all the peoples which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you. Your eye must not pity over them. And you must not serve their gods, because a snare it is to you.

17For you will say in your heart, ‘Greater are these nations than me. How will I be able to make them dispossessed?’ 18You must not fear because of them. Remembering you shall remember that which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has done to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, 19the great trials which your eyes have seen, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm by which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty had made you go out. So shall do Yăhwēh your Almĭghty to all the peoples which you fear from before their faces. 20And also the hornet Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will make be sent on them until he has destroyed those being left, and those being hidden, from before your faces. 21You must not tremble from before their faces, because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty in the midst of you is Gŏd, great and fearsome. 22And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have dropped off these nations from before your faces little by little. You will not be able to make them be finished hastily lest should multiply against you wild beasts of the field. 23And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have put them at your faces, and he will have panicked them a great panic until annihilating them. 24And he will have put their kings in your hand. And you will have made destroyed their name from under the heavens. No man will make himself be standing in your faces onward your making them annihilated.

25The icon images of their gods you must burn in the fire. You must not desire the silver and the gold upon them, and you may have taken it to yourself, lest your snare yourself by it, because an abomination of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty it is. 26And you must not make enter the abomination unto your house. Then you will have become devoted to destruction like it. Making detested you’all must make it be detested. And making be abhorred you must make it be abhorred, because devoted to destruction it is.

Chapter 8

All the commandment, which I am making be commanded you today, you must observe to do, so that you shall live, and you will have multiplied. And you will have entered, and you will have possessed the land which Yăhwēh swore himself to your fathers. 8:2And you will have remembered all the way which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty made you walk, this forty year period, in the wilderness, for the purpose of making you be afflicted, for making you be tested, to know that which is in your heart, if you would keep his commandments, or if not.

3So then, he made you be afflicted. So then he made you hungry. So then he made you eat the manna, which you had not known, and your fathers had not known, for the purpose to make you know that not upon bread by itself shall man live. Because upon all which is made to go out of the mouth of Yăhwēh man shall live. 4Your clothing has not worn out from upon you. And your feet have not blistered this forty year period. 5And you have known within your heart that as that a man will make to be disciplined his son, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty makes you to be disciplined. 6Then, you will have kept the commandments of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty to walk in his ways and to fear him, 7because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is making you enter into a good land, a land of wadis of waters, springs and aquifers, being made to go out in the valleys and in the hills, 8a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig and pomegranate, a land of olive, oil, and honey, 9a land which you will not eat bread in scarcity in it, (you will not lack anything in it), a land whose stones are iron, and from its hills you may hew out copper.

10So then, you will have eaten. Then, you will have been satisfied. Then, you will have made to be blessed Yăhwēh your Almĭghty upon the good land which he has given to you.

11Be on guard for yourselves lest you should forget Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, to keep not his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I am making to be commanded you today, 12lest you will eat, and you will have been satisfied, and good houses you build, and you have dwelled in them, 13and your cattle, and your flock multiply, and silver and gold increases for you, and everything which belongs to you increases, 14so then your heart will have become high, so then you will have forgotten Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, the one making you go out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves—15the one making you walk in the wilderness, the great and the dreaded one—firey serpents and scorpion and thirsty ground, where no water is—the one making water go out for you from the rock of flint, 16, the one making you eat manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had not known, for the sake of making you be afflicted, and for the sake of making you be tested, for doing you good in your ending.

17So then, you may have said in your heart, ‘My strength and the steel of my hands has made for me this wealth,’ 18So then, you will have remembered Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, because he is the one giving to you strength to make wealth for the sake of making stand his covenant which he has sworn himself to your fathers, as it stands this day.

19And it will have come to pass, if forgetting you will forget Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and you have walked after other gods, and you have served them, and you have made yourself to be bowing down to them—I have made testimony among you today that perishing you’all will perish! 20Like the nations which Yăhwēh is making perish from before your faces, likewise you’all will perish in consequence of your not listening to the voice of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty.

Chapter 9

Listen Yisra’ēl! You are passing over today the Yardēn to enter, to inherit nations greater and steelier than you, of great and impregnable cities in the heavens, 9:2of people great and tall, sons of the ‘Anaqi̱m, of whom you have known, and you have heard, ‘Who can make himself be standing at the faces of the sons of ‘Anaq?’ 3So then you have known today that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty himself is the one crossing over at your face. As a devouring fire he will annihilate them. And he will humble them at your face. Then you will have made them (dis)inherited. So then you will have made them destroyed quickly as that has made be spoken Yăhwēh to you.

4You must not say in your heart, while Yăhwēh your Almĭghty drives them out from at before your face, saying, “By my righteousness Yăhwēh has made me come to inherit this land,’ when by the wickedness of these nations Yăhwēh makes them (dis)inherited before your face. 5It is not by your righteousness, and by the uprightness of your heart that you are entering to inherit their land. Because by the wickedness of these nations Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is making them (dis)inherited from before your faces, and for the sake of making stand the word which Yăhwēh has sworn himself to your fathers, to ’Av̱raham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‘aqōv̱. 6So then you will have known that it is not by your righteousness that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you this good land to inherit it, because a people hard-necked you are.

Chapter 13

When there will arise in the midst of you a prophet or one dreaming a dream, (and he has given unto you a sign or portent, 13:2and the sign and the wonder has come, which he has made to be spoken unto you), saying, “Let us walk after other gods,” which you have not known, “and let us serve them,” 3then you should not listen unto the words of that prophet, or unto that one dreaming the dream, because Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is making you to be tested, to know if for real you are loving Yăhwēh your Almĭghty in all your heart, and in all your soul.

4After Yăhwēh your Almĭghty you shall walk, and him you shall fear, and his commandments you shall keep, and unto his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and on him you shall hold tight.

5And that prophet or that one dreaming the dreams will be made to die, because he has made to be spoken apostasy against Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, (who made you go out from the land of Egypt, and the one redeeming you from the house of slaves), to make you banished from the way which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty has made to be commanded you to walk in it. Then you will have made to be burned the evil from your midst.

Chapter 16

Observe the month of the A̕v̱i̱v̱. And you will have done Passover for Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, because in the month of the A̕v̱i̱v̱ Yăhwēh your Almĭghty made you go out from Egypt by night.

16:2And you will have sacrificed the Passover to Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, flock or cattle in the place which Yăhwēh will choose for making his name to be settled there. 3You shall not eat leavened bread with it. A seven of days you shall eat unleavened bread in addition to it, the bread of affliction, because in haste you had gone out from the land of Egypt, for the purpose that you will remember the day of your going out from the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

4And no leavening shall be seen in your possession in all your borders a seven of days. And nothing from the flesh, which you will sacrifice in the setting, on the first day, will not lodge overnight to the daybreak.

5You are not allowed to sacrifice the passover in one of your gates which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you, 6but unto the place which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will choose to make his name to be dwelling there, you shall sacrifice the passover, in the setting, as the sun goes, the appointed time of your going out from Egypt. 7And you will have made it to be boiled, and you will have eaten it in the place which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will choose in connection to it, and you will have turned in the daybreak, and you will have walked to your tents. 8Six more days you are eating unleavened bread, and on the seventh day is an assembly to Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. You shall do no work.

9Seven sevens you shall count for yourself from making a start of the sickle in the standing grain. You shall begin to count seven sevens. 10And you will have done the feast of sevens to Yăhwēh your Almĭghty. A sufficient free will offering will be in your hand, which you shall give as that Yăhwēh your Almĭghty makes you to be blessed.

16Three times in the year all your males will see the face of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, in the place which He will choose, in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of Shav̱ū‘ōt, and in the feast of Sūkkōt, and no one will seeᵝ the face of Yăhwēh empty-handed.

Chapter 18

20But the prophet who shall presume to make be spoken a word in my name, that which I have not made be commanded him to make be spoken, (and who will make be spoken in the name of other gods), then that prophet will have been put to death.

21And when you should say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word which Yăhwēh has not made be spoken him.’ 22Whatever the prophet makes be spoken in the name of Yăhwēh, and the word will not become, and it will not come, it is the word which Yăhwēh has not made be spoken him. With presumption the prophet makes be spoken it. Do not be afraid on account of him.

Chapter 24

When a man will take a wife, and he will have married her, then it may have been if she should not find favor in his eyes, because he will have found in her a matter of nakedness, then he will have written for her a scroll of being made cut off, and he will have given it in her hand, and he will have made her to be sent out of his house. 24:2And she will have gone out from his house. And she will have gone. Then she may have become another man’s. 3And the later man may have hated her, and he will have written for her a scroll of being made cut off, and he will have put it in her hand, and he will have made her to be sent out of his house, or if the later man should die, which had taken her for himself as a wife, 4then her first husband may not be empowered, which had made her to be sent away, to return, to take her to be to himself for a wife after that she has been made to be defiled to him, because it would be an abomination before the face of Yăhwēh. And you may not make the land sin, which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is giving to you as an inheritance.

5When a man may take a new wife, he may not go out with the army, and one may not impose upon him for any matter. Free he shall be to go to his house, one year. And he will have rejoiced with his wife which he has taken.

6One shall not bind as a pledge a millstone and rider, because it is a livelihood being bound.

7When a man is found stealing a soul from his brothers, from the sons of Yisra’ēl, and he has made himself to be a tyrant over him, and he has sold him, then that thief will have died. And you will have made to be burned the evil from the midst of you.

8Be watching for the touch of leprosy, to watch well, and to do according to all which the the priests, the Leυi̱yim shall make directed you, as that they will have made to be commanded, so you shall watch to do. 9Remember that which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty had done to Miryam on the way in your going out from Egypt.

10When you make a loan with your neighbor, a loan of anything, you shall not go into his house to take in pledge his pledge. 11On the outside you shall stand, and the man whom you are loaning with him, he shall make go out unto you the pledge, to the outside. 12And if a poor man he is, then you shall not sleep with his pledge. 13Making return, you shall make returned to him the pledge, as enters the sun, and he will have slept in his cloak, and he will have made you to be blessed. And for you it will be righteousness before the face of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty.

14You shall not oppress a hired man, poor and needy, from your brothers or from your sojourner, who is in your land, within your gates. 15On its day you shall give his wage, and you shall not make the sun enter upon him, because he is poor, and unto it he is lifting his soul, and he will not call against you unto Yăhwēh. And it will have been a sin on you.

Chapter 27

26Cursed is that one which does not confirm the words of this Law, to do them. And all the people will have said A̕maen.

Chapter 29

These are the words of the covenant, which Yăhwēh had made to be commanded Mōshēh to cut with the sons of Yisra’ēl in the land of Mōa̓v̱, besides• the covenant which he had cut with them in Ḥōrēv̱.

29:2Then Mōshēh called unto all Yisra’ēl. Then he said unto them, “You, You have seen all which Yăhwēh has done before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharo̒ah, and to all his servants, and to all his land, 3the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders.

And Yăhwēh has not given to you, the understanding to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear even unto this day. 5Therefore I made you walk forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out from upon you, and your sandals have not worn out from upon your feet. 6Bread you have not eaten, and wine and liquor you have not drunk, so that you may know that I am Yăhwēh your Almĭghty.

7Then you came unto this place. Then went out Si̱ḥōn, king of Ḥeshbōn, and Ō̒g, king of the Bashan, to meet us for battle. Then we made them smitten. 8Then we took their land. Then we gave it for an inheritance to the Re̓ūv̱ni̱, and to the Gadi̱, and to the half tribe of the Menashi̱.

9And you will have kept the words of this covenant. And you will have done them, so that you may make wise all which you will do.

10You are standing today, all of you before the face of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, all the men of Yisra’ēl, 11your children, your wives, and your sojourner which is in the midst of your camp, the woodchopper of your trees even to the drawer of your water. 12to cross over into the covenant of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and into his oath, which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty is cutting with you today, 13as the purpose of making you stand today, as his, as a people. And he will be for you as Almĭghty, as that he has made to be spoken to you, and as that he has sworn himself to your fathers, to A̓v̱raham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‘aqōv.

14And not with you, only you I am cutting this covenant, and this oath, 15but with whomever resides himself here with us, standing today before the face of Yăhwēh our Almĭghty, AND with whomever is not himself here with us today,♦ 16because you have known with whomever we had dwelled in the land of Egypt, and with whomever we have passed through in the midst of the nations which you have passed through. 17Then you saw their abominations, and their blocks, wood and stone, silver and gold, which are with them, 18lest reside among you a man, or a woman, or a family, or a tribe, whose heart is turning away today from with Yăhwēh our Almĭghty to go, to serve the gods of those nations, lest reside among you a root fruiting poison and wormwood.

19And it will have been, in his hearing the words of this oath, and he will have made himself to be blessed in his heart, saying, “peace will be for me when in the subbornness of my heart I will walk for the sake of sweeping away the watered along with the thirsty,” 20then Yăhwēh will not be willing to forgive for him, because then will smoke the anger of Yăhwēh, and his jealousy against that man, and will have lain down over him all the curses being written in this book, and Yăhwēh will have blotted out his name from under the heavens. 21And Yăhwēh will have made him separate, for calamity, from all the tribes of Yisra’ēl, according to all the oaths of the covenant, being written in the book of this law.

22And the later generation, your sons, who will rise up from after them, and the aliens, who will come from a far land, and they will have seen the wounds of that land, and the plagues which Yăhwēh has made be sick on it, 23brimestone and salt, a burning in all its land, that may not be sown, and may not make it sprout, and may not come up in it any plant, as the overthrow of Sedōm and A̒mōrah, A̓dmah and Tsev̱ōyi̱m, which Yăhwēh has overturned in his anger, and in his hot wrath, 24then all the nations will say, “For what has Yăhwēh done like so to this land? Why this great heat of anger?”

25Then they will say, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of Yăhwēh, Almĭghty of their fathers, who had cut with them in his making them go out from the land of Egypt. 26Then they went. Then they served other gods. Then they made themselves to be bowing to them, gods which they had not known them, and which he had not made to be a share for them.

27Then burned the anger of Yăhwēh against that land, to make come upon it all the curse being written in this book. Then Yăhwēh uprooted them from upon their ground in anger and in hot wrath, and in great fury. Then he made them cast into another land as of this day.

29The things hidden belong to Yăhwēh our Almĭghty. And the things being revealed are to us and to our sons until time immemorial, to do all the words of this law.

And it will have been when they will come upon you, all these words, the blessing and the curse, which I have put before your face, and you will have made them return unto your heart among all the nations which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty thereunto has driven you, 30:2and you will have returned unto Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, and you will have listened to his voice, according to all which I am making to be commanded you today, you and your sons, with all your heart, and with all your soul, 3then Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have turned your captivity, and he will have made you be collected from all the peoples which Yăhwēh your Almĭghty thereunto has made you scattered. 4If your driven one will be at the boundary of the heavens, then from there, Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will make you be collected, and from there he will take you. 5And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have made you come unto the land which your fathers had possessed, and you will have possessed it, and he will have done you good, and he will have made you increase beyond your fathers. 6And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have circumcised your heart and the heart of your seed, to love Yăhwēh your Almĭghty with all your heart, and with all your soul, for the sake of your life.

7And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have put all these curses upon your enemies, and upon your haters, which have pursued you. And you will return, and you will have listened to the voice of Yăhwēh, and you will have done all his commandments, which I am making to be commanded you today. 9And Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have made you overabundant in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your soil, for good, because Yăhwēh will return to rejoicing over you for good as that he had rejoiced over your fathers, 10because you will listen to the voice of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, to keep his commandments, and his statutes, that are written in this scroll of the law, because you will return unto Yăhwēh your Almĭghty with all your heart, and all your soul, 11because this commandment which I am making to be commanded you today—it is not extraordinarily beyond you, and it is not far away.

12It is not in the heavens, as to say, “Who will ascend for us unto the heavens, and he will receive it for us, and he will make us listen to it, and we may do it.” 13And not out over the sea it is, and one should receive it for us, and one should make us listen to it, and we may do it, 14because very near unto you is The Word in your mouth, and in your heart, to do it.

15See! I have put at your faces, today, life and good, and death and evil, 16in that I am making to be commanded you today to love Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments. And you will have lived, and you will have multiplied, and Yăhwēh your Almĭghty will have made you to be blessed in the land which you are entering thereunto, to possess it.

17And if your heart should turn away, and you will not listen, and you will have driven yourself away, and you will have made yourself to be bowing down to other gods, and you will have served them, 18then I have made clear to you this day that perishing you will perish. You will not make long the days upon the soil, which you are crossing over the Yardēn, to enter thereunto, for possessing it.

19I make bear witness against you today, the heavens and the earth. Life and death, I have put before your face, the blessing and the curse, and you will have chosen for life so that you may live, you and your seed, 20to love Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, to listen to his voice, and to cling on him, because he is your life, and the length of your days, to dwell upon the soil which Yăhwēh has sworn himself to your fathers, to A̓v̱raham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‘aqōv̱, to give to them.

Then Mōshēh walked. Then he made to be spoken these words unto all Yisra’ēl. Then he said unto them, “A son of a hundred and twenty years I am today. I am not able any more to go out and to come in. And Yăhwēh has said unto me, ‘You shall not cross over this Yardēn.”

11In coming all Yisra’ēl to see the face of Yăhwēh your Almĭghty, in the place which He will choose, you shall proclaim this Law before all Yisra’ēl in their ears.
