Yahweh is God's name. We use his name because he
commanded us to remember it:
"And Moshe said unto Elohim, Behold,
when I come unto the children of Yisra'ayl, and shall say unto them, The
Elohim of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me,
What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And Elohim said unto Moshe,
I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Yisra'ayl,
I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And Elohim said moreover unto Moshe, Thus
shalt thou say unto the children of Yisra'ayl, Yahweh, the Elohim of your
fathers, the Elohim of Avraham, the Elohim of Yitskhaq, and the Elohim
of Ya'aqov, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is
my memorial unto all generations" (Exodus 3:13-15).
His name ()
is pronounced, "a" as in "Father," "w" as in "boot" and "e" as in "they":
Yah-hoo-ay.
