The Millenial Reign

The topic of eschatology is frought with a myriad of interpretations, perhaps more than any other topic of Scripture.  Some believe the millenium has already occurred while others spiritualize the millenium.  Premillenialists believe in a literal millenium that is yet to come.  It will be clear from the scriptures that follow that much of the millenial period is the same as the dispensation of Law, for those that are dispensationalists. Dispensationalists are then left without explanation as to why God would have a period of Law, then Grace, then back to Law?

Dispensationalists are then left with one of two options:

  1. Attempt to reduce their cognitive dissonance by taking a non-literal view of the millenium. However, this only conpounds the errors and the dissonance because there is no contextual reason to vary from the literal interpretation of the many passages dealing with the millenium.

  2. Continue believing that the Law is not for the dispensation of Grace but that God could revert back to a dispensation of Law in the future. One question I would have for those that believe this way: Would this be under the New Covenant or the Old Covenant? (According to their definintion.)

Here are some of the passages that deal with specific aspects of the Torah being observed and enforced world-wide during the millenium:

NAB Ezekiel 37:24 "My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them. 25 "They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons' sons, forever; and David My servant will be their prince forever. 26 "I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever. 27 "My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people. 28 "And the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.""'

NAB Zechariah 14:16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, there will be no rain on them. 18 If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

NAB Micah 4:2 Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

NAB Jeremiah 31:33 "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

NAB Isaiah 66:21 "I will also take some of them for priests and for Levites," says the LORD. 22 "For just as the new heavens and the new earth Which I make will endure before Me," declares the LORD, "So your offspring and your name will endure. 23 "And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me," says the LORD.

NAB Ezekiel 46:1 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "The gate of the inner court facing east shall be shut the six working days; but it shall be opened on the sabbath day and opened on the day of the new moon. 2 "The prince shall enter by way of the porch of the gate from outside and stand by the post of the gate. Then the priests shall provide his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate and then go out; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening. 3 "The people of the land shall also worship at the doorway of that gate before the LORD on the sabbaths and on the new moons. 4 "The burnt offering which the prince shall offer to the LORD on the sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish and a ram without blemish;

NAB Ezekiel 45:17 "It shall be the prince's part to provide the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the drink offerings, at the feasts, on the new moons and on the sabbaths, at all the appointed feasts of the house of Israel; he shall provide the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering and the peace offerings, to make atonement for the house of Israel."
