1. The “fiftieth day” refers to what the Church calls, “Pentecost”, and what Jews call, “Shavuot”. It is a feast day and an annual Sabbath. The “fiftieth day” comes from Lev. 23:16. The calculation of the 50th day is the most complex calendar operation of the Scriptural Calendar, and depends on 1. sighting the first visible new moon nearest the spring equinox., 2. 15 days after the new moon is seen is the annual Passover Sabbath, when ceasing from leaven begins and also a day of ceasing from work. 3. The counting begins with the day after the “ceasing” (Lev. 23:15). 4. There are two countings, a. counting seven sabbaths (Lev. 23:15), and b. counting 50 days. 5. When the seven sabbaths are completed, the counting of days continues until the 50th day is reached (Lev. 23:16). This year (AD 34), the annual Passover Sabbath fell on a Thursday, so the day after the ceasing from leaven and work was Friday. Seven Sabbaths are counted in the time after this Friday. And also 50 days are counted. This year the 50th day falls 6 days after the seventh Sabbath on a Friday. So the Acts 2 feast day was on a Friday (Thursday sunset to Friday sunset). The “time after the seventh Sabbath” (Lev. 23:16) varies depending on the year. Neither the resurrection day nor the Acts 2 feast came on a Sunday. The resurrection was on the first of the seven Sabbaths (John 20:1), and the feast of Shavuot landed on the sixth day of the week.
2. They were all in one place. This place turned out to be the Temple, which was the proper place to assemble on the day of Shavuot. It occurred on the sixth day of the week this year because the start day for counting was also Friday—the same day that the women bought spices to anoint Yeshua (Nisan 16). Between the wave sheaf day and Shavuot, “seven Sabbaths” are counted, but the actual date of Shavuot is determined by counting 50 days (cf. Lev. 23:15-16).
